My name is Griffin Schroeder and I am a sophomore
Northwood University in Midland, Michigan.
I have been involved in raising $$$ for the
Lupus Society of Illinois since the spring of 2010. My Mom’s two sisters--my Aunt Tammy and Aunt Deborah--live with lupus every day. Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease. The immune system can’t tell the difference between its own cells or other substances and turns against its “self.” Thousands of Americans die from complications of lupus every year and currently, there is no cure.
This disease has touched my life and I wanted to do something to help.
That is why I started Griffin’s RED WAGON PROJECT, a returnable bottle and can drive to help raise awareness and money for the Lupus
Society of Illinois. With deepest gratitude, I thank those of you that have already supported me with this effort! To date, I have raised over $3000 for the Lupus
Society of Illinois.
But I’m just getting started!
I have enlisted the help of some of the younger kids in our subdivision to help me with this cause. Periodically throughout the year, we will post on this website when we will be out collecting bottles and cans. Where geographically appropriate, we can even come to your house to collect any returnables that you may have.
You can also donate directly to the
Lupus Society of Illinois via Griffin’s Red Wagon Project

I truly appreciate the support that my neighbors and friends have given to me, my aunts and the
LSI over the last few years as we continue to raise awareness and $$$ to beat this disease!
I make special mention of my mentor, M.P. McKenzie of the
LSI. With her help and guidance, she helped me every step of the way in my fundraising efforts. In 2011, I was awarded the "Youth Community Awareness Award" for the Lupus
Society of Illinois . I couldn't have done it without MP!
TOGETHER WE CAN make a difference in the fight to
